Browns GM Andrew Berry is typically lauded for his ability to get in front of market surges, re-signing athletes before the price of a player’s services climbs beyond Cleveland’s wage limit capabilities. That’s potentially what happened with Berry’s recent move.
NFL analyst Adam Schefter broke the news on Twitter late Monday night, citing sources who confirmed Dustin Hopkins’ three-year, $15.9 million contract deal with the Browns, making him one of the top five highest-paid kickers in the NFL.
Hopkins’ contract will run until 2027, according to Schefter. Hopkins now has an average pay of $5.3 million per year, tying him for the fifth-highest average compensation among NFL kickers. Justin Tucker of Baltimore is at the top of the highest income list, earning an average of $6 million every year.
Philadelphia’s Jake Elliott, Indianapolis’ Matt Gay, and the New York Giants’ Graham Gano are ranked second through fourth on the list of the highest-paid placekickers. Cleveland acquired Hopkins in a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers before to the start of the 2023 regular season.
Last season, Hopkins had his career-best performance as he made 33 field goals on 36 attempts, finishing with a 91.7 percent field goal completion rate.
